Find websites that link to several of your competitors as these sites are likely to link to your site too

If your website can't be found on Google, it basically does not exist. It is very important to be listed on Google if you want to get customers through the Internet. Is your article hiding among millions of others, difficult to find and not being read as a result? If it is, you’re not alone; great research can go relatively unnoticed if it’s not highlighted and indexed in the right way. Analyze search engine rankings and web traffic to determine the effectiveness of the programs you’ve implemented, including assessment of individual keyword performance. SEO can be a fuzzy concept that feels like more art than science. Don't let yourself be intimidated; it's easier than you think. On regular pages and posts, Google will most probably grab a piece of related content, including the keyword used in the search query. That makes a lot of sense for news sites, for example. Still, I recommend adding a meta description to all your important pages.

Web 2.0’s and Google Stacks

If you once had a thousand different links all coming from low quality websites, then this could now actually stand to hurt your SEO as it will just look like link spam. If you’ve been guilty of using these old practices, then you might consider using Google’s Link Disavow tool. The underlying content is extremely important. Too many people skimp on content, but it's one of the major anchors that tether you to Google's relevancy algorithms. Most SEO firms will tell claim it takes 4 to 6 months to start seeing results. It varies wildly but that’s generally in the ballpark for most projects. Note that SEO results are cumulative & escalate over time. If you’re getting positive results after 6 months these will compound after 12 months & re-compound thereafter. The most profitable relationships I’ve entered into with businesses have lasted for over 5 years during which time their fortunes have literally exploded. Getting high-quality links from outside websites is key — especially if you can find a way to get .edu links. Google sees inbound links coming from websites ending in .edu as especially trustworthy. Today, and for the foreseeable future, SEO is much less about optimizing for specific keywords, and much more about technical issues, social signals, and the overall trustworthiness of a company and its website.

Be yourself and not your keywords

Text without headings is terrible to read. Headings and subheadings are the most important anchor points a reader has in the text. People tend to read those more carefully and use headings to determine what a text is about. Google has always encouraged webmasters to make their primary focus one of providing a good user experience. As the algorithm gets “smarter”, websites that do so are positioned to benefit the most. Your content can target any audience, but if it doesn’t sufficiently deliver the information that audience is seeking, you’re out of luck. Local search success can be achieved by SEO. Remember, it takes 20 years to build a reputation and only five minutes to ruin it. While there’s no denying the power of paid marketing channels such as Google AdWords, establish your organic presence and you will likely find your most profitable marketing channel.

LINKS are STILL the #1 driving factor behind rankings

Gaz Hall, a Freelance SEO Consultant from SEO Hull, commented: "When the damage is done, it can be very hard to get back onto Google’s good side. In fact, that's often impossible." Do your maths - its one of the primary resources for this sort of thing. Its as simple as KS2 Maths. Really! Meta tags are the HTML elements that search engines and visitors find your content. It’s what they can see in a search engine and thus, it’s important to add value in a limited number of characters. Once you have exceptional content, you need to find ways to get that content out there and seen. That’s where social media comes in. Social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and LinkedIn continually prove to play a major role in doing business online. And with social signals—like follows, shares, likes, Google+’s and retweets — influencing search engine results, your business’s social media presence is something to take seriously. Today, smartphone usage is so huge that more searches are done on smartphones than on computers. Making sure your website is mobile friendly is massively important. With website analytics, you can hone in on your audience, identifying things like their interests, demographics, language, locations and behaviors. Understanding these elements can help you improve your website content.

Each piece of content targets a single keyword

At one time, directories like DMOZ were a good place to add listings and get backlinks. However, these large web directories aren’t really relevant anymore. Google is constantly evolving to better understand the context and intent of user behaviour. Review sites should also be considered in link building campaigns. These are the sites where your customers write about their experience with your products/services. Links on your page maybe internal—pointing to other pages on your site—or external—leading to content on other sites. In either of these cases, the better your anchor text is, the easier it is for users to navigate and for Google to understand what the page you're linking to is about. In short, Google is looking for signs of quality, relevance and great design. At the end of the day, Google does not care about you as a content creator. You are not Google’s customer! Google’s customer is the end user who searches for a keyphrase because they want to get relevant information or find the answer to a question.

Long tail keywords are essentially longer more specific keywords that tie in directly to your content. For example, if you are selling woman’s shoes on your eCommerce website. The main keywords would likely be: “ladies shoes”, “woman’s shoes”, “girls shoes” and other similar words. Every piece of content should have the user in mind. This also applies to SEO. You can’t create your next piece of content, or carry out keyword research, without knowing your audience. Good SEO means forgetting SEO and concentrating on your user then. And it also means forgetting SEO in that you are going to be trying to merge your different marketing strategies in order to create one bigger approach. It means trying to write amazing posts and share them on SEO so that you get more links and it means writing great content that keeps people on your page longer. If you want your website to rank well and stay penalty-free, building new links is not enough. You need to take care of your backlink profile and disavow all the spammy links. Content Marketing involves creating and sharing content online such as blogs, videos, or social posts to create interest around your brand and business. While the way you craft your content and the copy of your website obviously have an affect on your SEO, it’s important not to forget about the quality and whether people will actually want to read/ watch what you have to offer.
