Links are still the most important component of the search algorithm

It may seem counter-intuitive, but Google is tightening its organic results for 3rdparty websites and trying to respond to the good amount of searches by itself. A fast website keeps the attention of site visitors and encourages them to browse the content; a page that loads slowly will often drive users away - perhaps toward your competitors. Make sure your backlinks appear to be natural. Don’t ask webmasters to link back to your pages with a specific anchor text since this can haphazardly result in a pattern that may get noticed by search engines and cause you to get a linking penalty. A strong linking structure and other internal SEO best practices can provide that.

High authority links are great, but in my opinion, relevant links win the game every time. The age of backlinks matter. Links that have existed for a long time weigh more heavily in your website’s link graph. Try to ensure the key phrase is an exact match to what the searcher will type into a search engine. Natural language in search is becoming more prevalent, especially with the rise in voice search and Google’s understanding of natural language queries.
